Metropolitan Youth Symphony awards almost $4000 in scholarships to MYS musicians at the close of the season. These scholarships are used for summer music camps, private lessons, upgrading or repairing instruments and MYS registration fees. The Board of Directors determines the number of scholarships awarded at the Scholarship Competition and the amount of each scholarship to be awarded to each Division based on available funds. MYS also presents a DIRECTOR’S AWARD to the most outstanding member of each Division. The Conductor of each orchestra chooses the recipient of this award.
Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Inc. works in conjunction with our local United Food Bank in an effort to help give back to the community. Members, friends and family are encouraged to bring food donations to our weekly rehearsals and concerts. Our goal is to try to gather at least 1000 lbs of food each season.
MYS Board of Directors and staff are dedicated to doing all they can to help keep registration fees and ticket prices reasonable, while still maintaining a quality orchestral program. Throughout the season, MYS holds a variety of special events for musical fun and fundraising. Money raised at these events is applied to the general operating expenses for the MYS organization.
